Start with a ground level. This room is 8 x 16 room.
Remove the automatic roof and add a second floor. Since my ground is 8 blocks wide, I went in 2 blocks and made a 4 x 16 room leaving 2 x 16 blocks open on either side.
I then went to the roof section and chose the "gabled roof" (first option). Depending on the length and width of your 2nd floor room you may need to use the "Tall Gable Roof". After you pick the roof and place it, choose the "Roof selection pitch control" under the roofing section in build (you should already be there) and lower it to your liking (I like to lower it pretty low, and if you have to use the Tall Gable, you will need to lower it a lot).
Go back to the roof selection and pick the half gable roof and add it to the top of the first floor space you left open. Using the roof pitch control raise the roof up so that it just touches the underside of the gabled roof on the second floor. Do the same thing on the other side.
You may have to mess around with it a bit, but in the end you should have a barn roof, like this.
